Lire, Dire et Rire: Using French Picture Books in the Classroom

Introducing authentic French picture books to enhance children's enjoyment and achievement in language learning

This inspiring course draws on approaches from CLPE’s highly successful Power of Reading project. Participants are introduced to two authentic French picture books using patterns in narrative and language to enhance enjoyment and success in the teaching and learning of another language and enriching vocabulary and grammatical understanding. Verse and song play an important part in the course. Course members also gain insights into the wider world of French picture books. This course will: introduce French picture books and show how they can be used in the classroom; develop linguistic and grammatical knowledge; enhance intercultural understanding; develop cross-curricular links in line with the KS2 curriculum for 2014. Participants will gain: practical and imaginative ideas for teaching French using quality illustrated texts; insights into the world of picture books published in French and information about how to find out more; two French picture books with teaching sequences and information and ideas about further resources to assist teaching primary languages.
